Be Yourself

We really don't understand anyone in this world, and we should probably stop trying so hard to. The whole judging a book by its cover quote is becoming more real life as the days go on. I was sitting in my philosophy class, which contains only 8 kids and a teacher as it is an honors class, and quietly doodling. This class is especially inspiring and interesting to me, as it involves critically thinking. I have also taken a liking to thinking "outside of the box", and this class more than encourages this. Due to this positive and relaxed atmosphere, I feel it an extra nice environment to "mindlessly" doodle. Today I happened to be thinking about a picture I saw on tumblr (mine is boomindreams.tumblr.com), it had a quote that read, "Do not allow the eyes to fool the mind." Upon seeing this, I knew I wanted to use it as inspiration for a picture. So, I took out my purple pen and went at it. I began drawing, and the girl sitting next to me looked over and said, "Brittany, that is kind of creepy." I laughed a bit and said, "Haha, I'll take that." I didn't mind she had formed an opinion on the picture, in fact, I encouraged it. The picture did have a sort of occult or creepy element, I suppose. The fact I really began to ponder was: Why? I wondered why she had stated her opinion as so. I was minding my own business, had not asked her opinion, and yet, she had decided to offer it. I then realized why: people judge. She was so curious why I was drawing what I was, or rather, maybe she thought it didn't match who she thought I was, or moreover, did not match her thinking process. I just thought I would serve this as a friendly reminder: Don't judge, judging creates walls for opportunities to be stopped by! So overall, do what YOU want to do, those who judge you are only hurting themselves. There are only so many people who will continue to fight through the wall they build. Eventually, people get tired of breaking bricks.
