5 More Beautiful Words

Hello again! I'm back, and going to submit a journal entry similar to the first time I did this! This one will contain more beautiful words- a mixture of word suggestions and my own findings. Analogous to the last entry, I will provide an abbreviated definition (from online dictionary sources), and list what the word means to me. In other words, the denotation, followed by the personal connotation in the form of a short paragraph.

1) Alluring- to entice by charm or attraction.
Her hair bounces softly on her slightly exposed décolletage as she takes soft steps forward- her dulcet perfume creates a trail behind her. Someone beckons for her from behind, and her hair jumps shoulder to shoulder as she turns around. The boy that called to her can't help but acknowledge how beautiful she looks tonight. It's not the kind of beauty you see pasted in magazines or on television: her beauty is in the way her eyes glimmer in the atramentous room, as the reflections from the fluorescents glow with halcyon memories. Her splendor is in her laugh- such an authentic ecstasy that he feels as though he could listen to it ceaselessly.

2) Eleemosynary- relating to or supported by the church.
An ink-colored cross the size of a nail is tattooed behind your ear. Loose hairs left out of your ponytail conceal it only slightly- the amount of coverage leaves provide to a tree by the end of Fall. Do you shake like branches in the wind at the thought of being exposed? I wonder if the black symbol makes it easier for you to listen to God. I know ambrosia doesn’t run through your veins- I know you’ve sinned a few times- but I’m sure whoever you pray to every night knows you’re trying your best.

3) Sanguine- hope or optimism; a blood-red color.
I’m a twelve-year old child with pigtails and crooked teeth. I’m playing hopscotch with my sisters on a cloudy Sunday afternoon- we took an hour making the squares reach 200. The penumbra of the trees is just starting to cover our chalky mess. My sister throws a rock, and as it lands, a thunderous roar rattles our ear drums. As the rain pours down, we dance as if the storm is music- a cacophony less melodious than Beethoven or Bach. The chalk turns to a smudged mess: our hard work deteriorates before our innocent eyes. We tell ourselves there’s always tomorrow- this time we’ll get to 250.

4) Serendipity- a chance event that ends happily.
A gauche girl takes another unneeded art class at school- maybe this one will make her the next Van Gogh, although the odds aren't in her favor. A boy takes the same art class, although the chances of him becoming Picasso are slim. The blank canvases, spilled paint, and tarnished brushes are enough to discern they have a long way to go. The boy and girl do not become artists, but the girl learns the boy is most definitely wonderful enough to be labeled as art. She can't paint him a masterpiece to illustrate how she feels, but hopes her saccharine words in her clumsy calligraphy will do. Maybe one day they'll visit an art museum, and she'll tritely whisper to him that he is the most beautiful thing in the room- amidst the cliché in the words, she knows she'll believe it to be true.

5) Insouciance- a relaxed or calm state; not worrying about anything.
She lays in the grass as the sun paints her body a lurid, yellow hue. The grass itches her ankles, but she could care less at the moment- her inhales and exhales seem syncopated with the wind rustling the trees. She mails away the past, leaving no return address- it cannot be changed, and she will think about it no longer. It is time for her to embrace the present. Life is ephemeral, but she wishes she could be suspended in this blissful moment forever.
