Isn’t it ironic?
The concept of our life
That everything we work for
Will undoubtedly die
The beauty of our faces
The muscle that we’ve toned
The high paying job we worked for
The objects in our home
The thoughts we think important
The ones we surely don’t
The memories now filling us with bliss
And of course the ones that won’t
Our dearest friends
Our family
No one shall escape
The one thing guaranteed to everything
Will also be our fate
What fate do we all share?

Screw possessions, a "perfect" body and social status. Can't have it without losing it anyway. Anything beyond the bare minimum for survival should be strictly by choice, not to appease societal standards. In the end, we are nothing, so why must we have everything? Sorry for the rant, but your poem made me think a bit. :)

Somehow I find this poem about death actually inspiring to live. It reminds me of how short life is, which is something that, I think, everyone should always keep in mind. And the fact that we all share the same tragic destiny reminds me of how important it is to leave something wonderful and different behind. Beautiful poem! :)

You somehow manage to write a wonderful poem about death without ever actually saying the word "death". Fascinating.

Ironic, yes, and sad. But there is a certain beauty to this world, this life, although it is rather tarnished.

When I read things like this, I wonder why live is worth living.
And then I realize that it is the things like this.

The fate that is death
Shall be our sheer ultimate
Death is not to fear.

Don't ask me where that came from. XD

It was a haiku that popped in my head. I don't even know where that came from, but it sounded good.

I've never heard anything more true.  And beacause death is inevitable it leaves us to wonder why we fear it so?  When fate decides to claim you through death, why are people so afraid?  Maybe it's the fact that death is so unknown, but it happenes to everyone and everything so what's to fear?.. I think I'll leave it at that.

Yes, exactly! You understand the point of the poem perfectly! I think death is such an interesting topic, and I am sure it will appear in many more of my future poems! :D THANKS :)

we'll all die, one day, whether we're ready to or not. (good song to go with my statement is "If I Die Young") we take with us what we brought with us: nothing. a conclusion one might make from that fact is that life is meaningless, which in some aspects, it IS meaningless. but not all.

I see that we can agree on a number of things! (if you were looking for more of my poetry, it's in a file labled "poetry" in my gallery. some of it is marked as 'ideologically sensitive', but it's not THAT bad...)

Very good poem.

It kinda makes me sad that everything we do on this planet will eventually be lost.

Truly beautiful, i love this poem, in my country they make us learn only poems that show either only the good side of things or that starts with a neutral side and end up showing nearly only the good side and very rarely showing the bad side of things, so i'm always happy to see poems that aren't totally based on what's good in life, not because i'm a pessimist or something like that but because it shows that there will be dark thoughts in life that we must do our best to overcome so that they won't make us feel worthless.
